You are right, GCG, none of us end up with 12 actual eaters. (I have double digit kids here occasionally, but they really don't eat very much!)
I gave some thought to your situation and certainly spaghetti is an option. I think when we hit that age, I'll start keeping a cooked whole turkey breast in the freezer. That is 4 pounds of meat - probably wouldn't feed 12, but would probably feed 8. Right now, they are $10. How much spaghetti would you have to make? Two boxes - I buy whole wheat and I think those are about $2 box. I have frozen spaghetti sauce I made...probably pretty cheap. Spaghetti is probably cheaper. What about 6 boxes of mac and cheese? Burgers? Tacos?
How many of them spent the night?

None spent the night. This time. Very unusual. For some reason, girls aren't allowed to spend the night at the homes of friends who are male;) I see the thinking. I engage in the same thought process, but seriously...why discriminate against the possibility of heterosexual sexual activity and embrace the possiblity of homosexual activity? I'm thinking most same sex relationships don't start out in the front seat of an El Camino...
Anyway, I did spaghetti. 3 jars of sauce (3.60) plus 5$ worth of ground cow (courtsey of my dh who is prefers that to turkey), two pounds of pasta (2.00--not whole wheat for this crew), left over salad (which only the girls and adults touched, although I did add 1/2 bag of frozen veggies to the sauce); and garlic bread out of hamburger buns from the "Bourgogne Bakery".
The only person unhappy was 4/7-Boy who, I had forgotten, doesn't like meat. So he had noodles and cheese.
Lots of left over sauce, which I will freeze. No left over pasta.
Maybe I'll make some and Seal-A-Meal it for the future.
