Cheese sticks are at Aldi for $2.89. (Thomas begged, and I even made a special stop for them:)
Kroger is still selling organic Galas for $3.99 bag.
Packables: jar of peanut butter with celery (and other pb dippables like califlower, etc.), trail mix (homemade), pre-cooked burgers (better than drive thru).

Another packable idea is pasta salad. My kids eat this because it is of course pasta! But it is a cold salad. I use cork screw pasta, cut up veggies, parm cheese, italian dressing, ranch dressing - mix all up and chill. I have also added feta cheese for a little extra tanginess. I am sure you can put cut up chicken strips in there as well.
I just read an article today about the benefits of eating eggs and that the previously thought of health consequences of eggs are not evident for most people. So, for those looking for extra protein sources, we can freely eat eggs without concern!! :)
I can't wait to try your pita bread recipe Debbie - sounds yummy!
